Food Security:
The power of collaboration
Getting Started...
Work with your age-friendly, lifelong community core team to create a list of potential community partners:
Foodbanks/soup kitchens
Churches
Community centers
Municipal office
Community garden organizers
Local farmers
Small businesses
Health care organizations
Gardening group/club
A few Ideas to tackle collaboratively
Reach out to a local farm and propose a discounted farm share for eligible residents in exchange for promoting the farm in your food security guide
Work with local farms to start or expand a gleaning program
Partner with a local restaurant or cafe to host a monthly community event with an invited speaker. The business could provide free coffee and pastries or bagels in exchange for an article promoting the role the business has in the event
Recruit volunteers to help existing programs that are willing to expand their services to older residents but who lack capacity
Are you implementing a program with partners? Tell us about it so we can share your idea here.
