Age Friendly Georgetown has established an Emergency Contact System, which was set up in partnership with the Town Office, the Georgetown Fire Department/EMS, the Community Center, and the local church.
This is used primarily during power outages but could be employed in other emergency situations. The system is “opt in”, meaning we only include people who have indicated they want to be part of the system.
This works via a “phone tree” and is intended to determine if any of the participants are in difficulty and need assistance of some sort.
When signing up, the participant indicates how they would like to be contacted, including email if their connection is working, phone call, or a visit by their designated contact person. In addition to the safety checks we also have Georgetowners who have offered to provide accommodation if it’s not safe or comfortable for someone to stay in their home.
