Highlight of 2023: Our food box program has had its one year anniversary . We have increased from the first order of ten to 65 for May! There are more people out there so we’ll keep trying to find them. Facebook has given us the most responses.
The town continues to be a strong partner. They have opened their website to us and are referring residents to us . We have provided educational opportunities for everyone in town to see what an Age-Friendly community can do.
We are slowly developing a ride system for medical and non medical resident needs.
Age-Friendly Buxton's Initiatives and Accomplishments:
Communication and Information
We receive referrals from the town to help connect residents to resources and services
Increasing access to libraries by starting a home delivery service
Community Supports and Health Services
USDA Commodity Food Box delivery
Sharing the programs and activities offered by Age-Friendly Buxton at the community wellness fair
Housing
We have initiated contact with the students at Bonny Eagle High School and they are raking yards and shoveling for residents who need this assistance.
Worked with Northeast Labs in Westbrook to get free radon test kits and discounted coupons for the test. The team gave the free tests with the Commodity Food boxes and will make them available at community events.
