Fryeburg Age-Friendly Community Task Force's Initiatives and Accomplishments:
A Community Assessment, was done as the initial FAFCT project to generate suggestions and enthusiasm for our Age-Friendly Community designation. Fryeburg is home to people of all ages and we want to make our community a place that meets everyone's needs.
Community Supports and Health Services
Fryeburg Community Aid (FCA) a program of mutual aid started at the beginning of 2020 to support people who were housebound by Covid. Volunteers provided delivery, transportation, check-in calls, and other support services to anyone requesting assistance.
Housing
Sand Buckets for Seniors is a program in collaboration with Fryeburg Recreation Department to deliver 5 gallons of sand to seniors unable to get out of their homes due to wintry conditions in walkways.
Window Dressers is an energy conservation program done in collaboration with the Mt. Washington Valley Age- Friendly Community. Window inserts are designed and cut by Window Dressers, a not-for-profit organization in eastern Maine which ships them to our area for assembly and installment. This program provides low cost window insulation for homes with high energy loss and costs.
Outdoor Spaces and Public Buildings
The Fryeburg Town Forest Trail, was designed and created by the Fryeburg Conservation Committee and supported by FAFCT (Fryeburg Age-Friendly Community Task Force) through volunteers and funds from an AARP Community Challenge grant. The trail is a one-mile loop through mixed forest along the Saco River. A portion of the trail is an accessible loop and the trail has seating to accommodate walkers in need of a rest stop.
